Foo Fighters, Queens Of The Stone Age: Sucking Up To The Man With The BlackBerry Storm

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Sucking up to the man has been commonplace for a long time in the rock n’ roll world. However, it is still surprising for those of us who grew up as grunge babies. To see some of our heroes pandering to corporations hurts, just a little.

Last night the Foo Fighters played their 2nd corporate function along with Queens of The Stone Age. The event was a private concert held at Los Angeles’ 1400-capacity Avalon in promotion of BlackBerry’s first touch-screen phone, the Storm.

The fall of Dave Grohl is epic in it’s scope. He went from being the badass drummer of Nirvana and cool frontman of the Foo Fighters to becoming pretty damn lame around the late 90’s. I’d say the nail in his coffin was driven in hard when the Foo Fighters single “Learn To Fly” was released in 1999. I won’t go into too much detail here as we plan on doing a full piece on the fall of 90’s icons at some point.

In case you don’t remember, the Foo Fighters also played the private Fallout 3 launch party in LA on October 17th. Are the Foo Fighters trying to get a bunch of money before their upcoming 18-month hiatus? How much more money do they need? Any way you slice it, it sucks. Queens of The Stone Age…well they were never really sucky or great, so I don’t think anyone really cares about their involvement. They need all the money they can get.

Dave Grohl didn’t even play drums with QOTSA. Damn…
